I found out that Carlie had Trisomy 18 early in my pregnancy around 10 weeks with a genetic test. We went further into the pregnancy and the ultrasounds had every characteristic of the genetic disorder. They said she had a heart defect and the entire left side was not developed. She was our baby and as long as she was alive I was going to carry her. At every doctor appointment I held my breath before hearing the heart beat but every time it was stronger than before.
I delivered Carlie at 38 weeks she was 3 lbs 12 ounces and 17 inches long. She was our miracle. We were prepared to say goodbye to her but after a week they sent us home. We just couldn’t believe we were taking her home! Our family and friends gave us swings and baby accessories! We had her in our life for 5 months and 5 days. She changed our lives forever. We loved her for her entire life and she will be missed dearly by so many people.
