After having our first son we were now expecting for the second time and hoping for a little princess. On my 19-week ultrasound appointment I was told my fetus was about one week smaller than normal and there was an abnormality in the umbilical cord. Two weeks later I had an amniocentesis to see what exactly was going on. Six days later they called to confirm my baby had Trisomy 18. As you can imagine my heart shattered into a million pieces. My husband and I decided not to tell anyone and we would simply love her and enjoy her like any other expecting pregnancy.
Shaely was born stable but two days later she went into respiratory distress and was airlifted to Children’s Mercy, we were there for two weeks before we were able to take her home with a feeding tube. I kept working with her to feed by bottle. After two months she pulled her feeding tube off and we decided not to put it back in, remarkably she did fine drinking with a bottle. Amazingly She never had to be admitted back into the hospital until she was nine months old for RSV and a very high temperature. Our nightmare came true, on December 15, 2016, our little fighter and miracle Shaely left us. Shaely showed all of us to always fight even against impossible odds! She was always happy and gave us so much love. We loved her and enjoyed her every single day of her life. She was always out and about with me, always looking like a true princess. Everyone who met her simply fell in love with her.
